2009 resolution

Without hope or agenda,
Just because it's Christmas-
(And at Christmas you tell the truth)
To me you are perfect
and my wasted heart will love you

Merry Christmas

Enough now."

as brigas,
descontos pra vendedoras (que é de 40% by the way)
enfim... tudo que eu sempre quis saber e nunca ninguem havia me dito.

*bom pra minha comissão, not so much for my pride*

-Usar o steamer pra passar roupas (ainda prefiro o ferro convencional)

all and all.. I'M LOVING IT!

Being Single and Content

I went to a wedding this past weekend, and for some reasons weddings have a way to stir up something inside of me, and that something is not entirely bad, but it makes me ansious,
makes me want someone to hold my hand, you see where this is going right?
So before I started to get sad, and feeling lonely I thought of something a friend of mine wrote, that helps me to stay "cool" when the "I wish I had a boyfriend" drama starts, so here it is, It migth help you too.

Being Content and Single

So spring is here, Valentines Day is fresh in my memory, and I've been doing some thinking about this whole being single thing. I don't know what it is about this time of year, but I keep feeling compelled to go out and find someone. Not for any reason in particular - perhaps narcissism - I don't know. My point is that I've let myself buy into the lie that I'll only be happy in a relationship. The only relationship that is essential to our lives is our walk with Jesus Christ.

I guess it goes back to the whole contentment thing. There is no contentment outside of Jesus. When I drift off and fall away from my Savior I start looking for other stuff to fill me up. All of a sudden this whole dating just for the sake of making yourself feel good things looks a little more attractive, when in turn it is a completely ridiculous idea. Dating **for the sole purpose of** deriving some kind of physical, emotional, or egotistical pleasure from it is both selfish and irrational. This is the kind of relationship in which you really don't care that much about the other person, instead you're interested in how they make you feel. Questions arise like "Do they make you happy? Do they make you feel good?". These questions do not focus on the other person, or even on your realtionship. These questions are directed at enhancing your emotions and feelings at the expense of other if need be. In essence, this type of dating is nothing but a way of making what's supposed to be a symbiotic relationship all about you.

Now, dating should bring emotional fulfillment, edification, and (within the contents of marriage) physical pleasure, but as a function of love and focus towards a common goal (Jesus Christ). These things come from a mature relationship and mutual sacrifice, NOT from a narcissistic manipulation of the opposite sex. Which kind of brings me to my point... dating just for the sake of "it makes me feel good" is just plain dumb (we'll call this emotivistic dating). Crack makes you feel good too, but it there aren't enough benefits to outweigh the side effects of crack, you probably shouldn't be doing it (Of course it's a no brainer w/ crack, but a good illustration). Emotivistic dating uses up resources (time, energy, money, affection) and can lead to tons of drama, dangling emotional feelings, impure physical relationships, and a plethora of other baggage that you will carry into other relationships.

So here's the skinny: I need to be content with being single! The apostle Paul tells us that "Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am." and that "I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs—how he can please the Lord."(I Cor. 7:8, 32) Did you hear that? It will actually help my walk with the father if I remain single. While men/women are encouraged to marry if it will help fight lust (I Cor. 7:9), Paul says that those who have the gift of celibacy should exercise it, so that we may focus more on Christ (I Cor. 7:7). What I get from this passage is don't freak out about being single! This is a time in which I can go where He would lead me, free of any ties and concerns that are usually associated with a significant other. Do I want a wife? Yes, but I want to be close to my Lord far more. Because when I'm close to Jesus, everything else just kind of works itself out.

This isn't a new idea for me, but it is a constant battle, and I think it's always going to be that way. While I might have made the cognitive decision to give my dating life to God a long time ago, living the decision had become much harder. Jesus knew it would be this way, not just with dating but with the desires of the flesh in general. That is why he said "If anyone would come after me he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23). He gave us the command to do it DAILY, not just once. That is the only way we will find contentment.

So are you struggling with being single? are you in a bad relationship? make sure that your contentment comes from Jesus - and him alone. Once you have that type of perspective, you'll be able to handle any interpersonal relationship with a clear head. As the psalmist said:

Whom have I in heaven but you?And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heartand my portion forever.
-(Psalm 73:25-26)

Funny how sometimes I feel like a carnation, a little left aside, not the 'obvious' choice, but hey, at the end of the day is not everybody who can aprecciate a carnation for what it is instead of trying to turn it into a rose, it takes someone especial too.

Life

What is life? actually what i really wanna ask is: what is living?
is it waking up in a decent hour, go to work/school, talk to your friends, laugh for awhile, watch your favorite TV show and go to sleep?
The only anwser I can come up with is: NO
Unfortunately thats the life I've been living lately, and the sense of emptyness is been eatingme up, All the plans I make but never seem to turn into reality, I find myself in a lost of will.
And it all goes back to Procrastinating, doesn't? [at least for me]
"Just more 5 minutes in bed" that turns into an hour, and sometimes hours.
Those [very] precious minutes that I wast in bed might not make a bad person of me, but they turn me into the worst thing I could be, they make me an average person.
You might be thinking "Wait, average is not worst than bad" think again.
A "bad"person usually does something, it can be a poor decision or a bad atitude/action , she acts, even if for the worst, she actually does something
Wasting time, time in which you could be helping someone, or learning something new, or simply growing as a person is doing nothing. NOTHING!
When I stop to think about all of the time, talent, passion and all of the amazing gifts I've received from God and threw away by not using then, it makes me wanna kick myself mentally!
Its time to stop thinking about tomorow and acting on TODAY, right now.
It can be something as simple as a smile, or offering help.
You can do it [ and without a doubt in my mind SO CAN I]

"No more waiting for tomorow today is the day that I will change the world"

No entanto, eu penso e analiso gerações.

He loves us the same, even if for different reasons.

Por que as pessoas gostam da lei?

The following post was written by André Queiroz, at www.prandre.com/ [this blog is really inspiring, and its full of great videos and discussions]

We used to be friends

There's a comunity on orkut that says "I Search for for [fake] keys in my purse to avoid acquainteces".
We've all been there, You're walking at the mall, when you see someone you "sord of know", and first you "panic" and doesn't really know what to do, and then you wonder:
"Did she see me?" "Should I say Hi?" and after considereing all the pros and cons you just start "searching" for something in your purse, or turns the other way and acts like you just didn't see the person. [That last one really works if the person you are turning away from was also whising not so greet you.]

The cenario is almost always the same, what changes is the people who are part of it.
Maybe you and you're acquaintece were friends at 8th grade and for some silly reason got into a fight and never spoke to eachother again. [and not only you feel horible for not saying "hi" you also get stuck thinking "why you two aren't friends anymore", and "what would be different if you still were. But after a few moments you forget all about it.

Maybe they're just a friend of a friend [and you don't really know if they remember you]

Or maybe you two were friends not that long ago, and for reasons you both know well.
After you parted ways with that person you thought "hey, maybe I'll never see him again, and this won't be so hard" [which you knew all along was just whishful thinking]. And when you least expect, you're looking at his face, with no "preparation", no speech planned out, nothing.
Just a million thoughts running through your head, and all sorts of fellings, you might feel a little mad at first, just to cover up the sadness you know its there.

What I'd love to know is when the last cenario becomes the first one, when do the feelings turn into just memories, when does the sadness goes away.

when things get hard

What do you do when you know someone really needs help?
and the kind of help you have NO IDEA how to provide to the one in need?
People usually pray [and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, on the contrary], leave it up to God's hand. But for some reason I always feel like I should do more than that.
Not beacuse God might be too busy to rescue that person, He NEVER is too busy, but just because I can do something too, I mean, we ALL can, "there's a will, there's a way" right?
It makes me so sad to know that there are people out there who are in desperate need of love and caring, and that most of the time I'm too busy to do that for them. It makes me feel powerless and weak. Having said that I can only imagine how people who don't know about God's love might feel [and that scares the heavens of me].
I know that when I'm weak he will make me strong, but what about those who are missing out on that line?

the glorious sound of silence

Isn't silence just great?
Sometimes I feel like we are all a little too afraid of silence.
And that makes us talk talk talk (and sometimes, we're just saying words that don't even mean anything to anyone)
We have that need to "conect" with people and we have a false feeling that talking to them its going to make that happend. Well, it won't.
Cause once you feel totaly comfortable with someone just staying close to them, without saying a word, thats when you two really conect.
One of my favorite things, is to lay on the floor and stare the sky, especially when its warm and sunny out.
We don't need people around us ALL THE TIME. We should take advantage of the moments we find ourselves alone, enjoy them as much as we enjoy spending time with our friends & family.

Scissors & Regrets

I was looking at some pictures from last year, and I couldn't help but wonder what the heck did I do to my own hair! (as you can see on this picture).

I remeber how bored I was that night, and how I wanted to do something different and exciting, and I couldn't wait till the next day, it had to be done on that moment. So I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut, what was supposed to be bangs. Right after I finished I though: "CRAP" this looks awful!

This past weeks I've been feeling the same way I did that night, like nothing exciting is happening, only this time, I got a little wake-up call, and you do know what it said?

"THAT'S LIFE! "

And I was SO happy to hear that, even though it wasn't what i WANTED to hear, it was what i NEEDED to hear.

I wish all the mistakes I've made in my life were as easy to repair as a bad haircuts. Even if it takes a lot of time the hair always grows back, its not that simple with actions you took and you regret it, people who's feellings you deeply hurted.

Here's the thing, we are human, we are going to make mistakes. We have to be aware of the situations we put ourselves in, that need to have something "exciting" in your life might cause you problems later.

the part that counts: Jesus died for our "bad haircuts" the ones you did it yourself, and the ones people did it to you, so no matter how bad the haircut is, in His eyes it ALWAYS grows back. [and that doesn't mean you don't have to face the consequences, I myself had to go to prep school with that hair every single day untill it wasback to the way I wanted.]

A weekend that made it all worth it.

One of the amazing proofs that God really is out there is friendship, He knew all along that we probably wouldn't be able to live fully without those people around us, so in all his knoledge he placed each and every single one of them in our lives, and the weird part is how those friendships developed, how they started. The fact that one day you just said "hello" to a person you didn't know and after a few months, after various situations we have to go through (some good, some really bad) they show you how much they care, how much they love you and you realize that your life is not the same it was before you met them, it is SO much better.

Meeting your gilfriends [that you haven't seeing in a long time] to take care of one of them who is hurting after a difficult break-up? Be able to make her laugh, eat some really BAD pizza, talk till 4 in the morning about the most various [and FUNNY] things, have a little makeover...
Gosh, I've really missed you girls.

Going out dancing with some friends that you didn't even know you could call friends, have a great time, and realize that you might have more incomum than you would've imagine.

For a very long time I had the wrong idea of what a friendship should be like (I blame it on all the movies I've watched, the TV shows, the soaps) I used to think that real friends had to see eacth other every day, and know everything about themselves.
Now I know that real friends are the ones who you might go years without seeing, who you might know NOTHING about, or who might know nothing about you. As long as they care enough to stick with you, even for one day, even for a few hours. They care.

Putting someone before you, your needs and "wants" is defenitely not easy, but surely gratifying and a great road to understanding what God's love is all about.

Faith

Faith seems unnatural sometimes. So does love. Healing. Forgiveness. Growth. Discipline. Relationships. Even prayer. These are not always our bodies and souls intuition. Forgive someone who has destroyed something I love? Not natural. Believe in something I cannot really see? Not natural. Love passionately without the reservations of being hurt? Not natural. Trust in someone besides myself? Not natural. Yet, Christ calls us to these things. If they were natural to us, they probably wouldn't be Holy, would they? And that's the point.
Be Holy for I am Holy. Not "be Holy...because it comes naturally".

Sloth

Yeap. SLOTH, The most deadly sin ever!(at least for me), staying in bed for more than 8 hours became, well, part of my routine this past vacation, and let me tell you, it can get really addicting, not to mention depressing. When my sister and my mom tried to wake me up a few days ago, i was behaving like a "sleep-addict" Started with me saying "just a few more minutes" and then at the end I was almost screaming "leave me alone, i just wanna sleep".
This morning I got an explanation (from me lovely, and almost graduate sister), aparently when you sleep past 6/8 hours you get some "deppresing" dreams in your REM sleep, and basicly gets tired from sleeping (as if you were actually doing something).
I guess that was my wake up call.
Looking back on my first college vacations, well, i pretty much WASTED all of those days, doing NOTHING, at least nothing worth charing, i didn't meet new people (needless to say i didn't make any new friends), I didn't get a job, I didn't work out, and I most certainly did not help at any volunteer work (something I've been wanting to do in 2 years -but i didn't have the time)
You might think "and how creating a blog is going to help you accomplish any of the above?"
and here's the anwser "It won't"
But it will make me think about all the thing I've done, (and in this "post" case all the things I didn't do, just because I was too LAZY) and I'll my plans and hopes for the near (and not so near) future.

P.S.: I have no explanation for the blog's title ! =D
